In what observers describe as a reaffirmation of confidence in his leadership and organizational capacity, former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has once again been appointed to chair a strategic committee ahead of the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention.
Senator Kalu, who earlier today chaired the Screening Committee for the convention, will now lead the Ceremonies and Programme Presentation Working Group making it the second high-profile responsibility entrusted to him in the build-up to the party’s crucial gathering.
Party insiders say the decision reflects Senator Kalu’s proven track record in handling sensitive assignments, as well as his ability to deliver results under pressure. His dual role has also been interpreted as a signal of his growing influence within the ruling party and his standing among key stakeholders.
The Ceremonies and Programme Presentation Working Group is mandated to coordinate all ceremonial aspects of the convention, including the planning and execution of opening and closing proceedings. The committee is expected to ensure that the event runs seamlessly, with strict adherence to protocol, timing, and the party’s established traditions.
Under Senator Kalu’s leadership, the committee will also oversee programme scheduling, stage management, and overall coordination of activities that will define the tone and structure of the convention.
Other members of the committee include Lawal Anka, Adams Daboturudima, Taiwo Sunmonu, Kabiru Shuaibu, Mr. Abu Atayi Yinusa, Yemi Oso, Fatu Jimeta Sabo, David Okategwu, Arc. Samuel Jatau, and Ubong Sam.
Fatima Umar Danejo serves as the Secretary of the Committee, playing a central administrative and coordination role to ensure the smooth execution of the group’s mandate.
Political analysts note that the success of any national convention often hinges on the effectiveness of its planning committees, particularly those responsible for ceremonies and programme coordination. As such, expectations are high that the team, under Senator Kalu’s guidance, will deliver a convention that is both orderly and reflective of the APC’s national stature.
