As May 29th draws nearer by the day, apart from the story of the Presidential Election Tribunal, one of the major stories on the front burner of every major news outlets in Nigeria is that of who will occupy the third most important seat in the leadership of our great nation, Nigeria, which is that of the Senate President.
Every truthful person can admit to the fact that Nigeria, in it’s current state, cannot afford to get it wrong in any leadership position, as our nation is in dire need of men and women who can get the job of Nation building, Unification and Economic growth done. And we all can agree that without sentiments/biases, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is one who perfectly fits such description, from every point of assessment.
Nigeria is a Peculiar nation, and certain important factors shouldn’t be taken for granted when making some decisions, one of such is the understanding of the religious and ethnic diversities of this nation, which if handled properly can be a huge blessing to the nation, but anything contrary to that, will seriously mar, not just the nation’s development, but it’s peace and stability also.
It is worthy of note, to recognize the fact that APC, being the ruling party decided in the best interest of the party and nation to field a Muslim -Muslim ticket in the presidential election, a decision that every of it’s party member, especially Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, supported. So, for the sake of balance in the leadership structure of the nation, the APC, should ensure that the Senate Presidential Seat is occupied by a Christian.
It is also important to consider the geographical location of such person, as the South -East who were rightfully clamoring for the Seat of the Presidency but couldn’t see it’s materialization, one would expect that the right thing to do, for equity sake, is to zone this all important position to the South East, Owing to the fact that in recent times, the other Geo-political zones have been represented in key areas of the nation’s leadership. The South-South zone, which is a major contender for this seat has produced a Vice President, President and most recently, Speaker of the House of representatives etc.
It is therefore pertinent to state as a matter of fact that the best candidate, whose emergence will create balance and bring about the desired equity that the people are clamoring for, is the person of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, whose competence and experience also, as a two-time governor and a returning Senator, will offer the highly desired stability that the Red Chamber and the nation at large, desires.
