2023 Presidency: South East groups issue 30 day lifeline to APC, PDP others..
Political parties in Nigeria, including All Progressive Congress (APC) and People’s Democracy Party (PDP), have been given a 30-day lifeline to zone their 2023 Presidential ticket to the South East or face jurisdiction.
Igbo Leadership Development Foundation (ILDF) and South East for President (SEFORP) yesterday at a joint press conference in Enugu issued the lifeline urging political parties to respect the principles of zoning and federal character entrenched in the constitution in their choice of candidates for the 2023 presidential poll.
National Coordinator of ILDF, Godwin Udibe who addressed the conference said: “We call on Nigerian political parties to respect the federal character act and zoning principles enshrined in their constitutions and zone their presidential tickets to the South East in clear, unambiguous and unequivocal terms within the next thirty days, failing to do so, we will take out a legal action for appropriate reliefs, but in particular for the order of court compelling all the registeredpolitical parties to zone their Presidential tickets to the South East Zone.
Udibe said the ultimatum became necessary due to, “some ongoing subterranean maneuverings in the major political parties to short change the South East in the presidential election come 2023.”
He also called on all Nigerians of good conscience to rally support for the South East Zone Presidential aspirations for the sake of equity, justice and fairness, even as he urged Igbo politicians to impress it on their party leadership to zone the 2023 Presidential ticket to the zone.
