Barely a year ago, the erstwhile National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomole from Office following a Court Ruling. Shortly after Oshiomole’s removal, a Caretaker Committee chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State was consituted to oversee the affairs of Party. Already, The Race over becomes the Next APC National Chairman has stated in earnest as Prominent Politicians including Former Governors, Incumbent Senators and a Serving Minister have already indicated interest in the APC Number One position. All things being equal, below is the List of Top 6 Politicians Likely to Replace Governor Buni as the APC National Chairman.
1. Abdulaziz Yari
Yari, 52 is the Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, He belongs to the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) Bloc of the ruling APC. As a Chieftain of the defunct ANPP, Yari served consecutively as a State Secretary, State Chairman and later the National Financial Secretary from 1999 to 2007. Thereafter, He represented Anka/Talata/Marafa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives (2007 – 2011). In April 2011, Yari was elected as Governor of Zamfara State under the ANPP platform. He won a re-election in 2015 under the APC flagship, Yari served simultaneously as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) from 2015 to 2019.
2. Senator Ali Modu Sheriff
Sheriff, 64 is an Household Name in Borno State. He holds the laurel as the First Politician to govern the State for Two-terms (2003 – 2011). Senator Sheriff served in the Nigerian Senate on two different occasions (1992 – 1993 and 1999 – 2003) under the ANPP platform. He joined the PDP in 2014 and served as the party’s National Chairman from February to August 2016. He however returned to his former party, the All Progressives Congress in April 2018. 3. Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura
Al-makura, 68 is the incumbent Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District at the Nigerian Senate under the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagship. He was a Founding Member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State, he later decamped to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) where he contested and was elected as Governor of Nasarawa State in 2011, Thus, making him the only Governor who was elected under the CPC platform during the April 2011 General Elections. Al-makura won a re-election in 2015 under the APC platform and successfully completed his Two-term tenure in May 2019.
4. Senator George Akume
The 66years-old Akume is a Tiv by tribe, The Benue State-born Politician currently serves as Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs in the Federal Executive Council led by President Muhammadu Buhari. He was a Two-term Governor of Benue State serving from 1999 to 2007 under the PDP platform, he later decamped to the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) and was elected to represent Benue North-West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, a position he occupied from June 2007 to June 2019.

Shettima, 54 is a First-term Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly under the APC platform. 6. Mallam Isa Yuguda
Yuguda is a Fulani by tribe he hails from Bauchi State. The Banker turned Politician came into political limelight in June 2000 following his appointment as Minister of State for Transport by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo. In May 2003, He was redeployed to the Ministry of Aviation where he served until June 2005. Yuguda was elected as Governor of Bauchi State in 2007 under the ANPP platform, he later decamped to the PDP in 2009. He won a re-election under the PDP platform in 2011 and completed his Two-term tenure in May 2015. However, Yuguda decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2018.
